Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill”: Musk’s Scathing Assessment

Date:

Elon Musk has delivered a scathing assessment of President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” telling CBS that he is “disappointed to see the massive spending bill, which increases the budget deficit … and undermines the work that the Doge team is doing.” This public rebuke from a former key advisor and significant financial contributor signals a dramatic shift in the relationship between the tech mogul and the president.

Musk’s past efforts to lead the “department of government efficiency” (Doge) were aimed at precisely the opposite outcome of what he perceives in the new bill. His frustration stems from the legislation’s projected $2.3 trillion addition to the national debt, a figure that directly contradicts his mission to reduce state spending. This ideological clash over fiscal policy appears to be the primary driver of Musk’s increasingly vocal opposition.

The bill itself is a comprehensive package that includes extending tax cuts for individuals and corporations, eliminating clean energy incentives, and implementing substantial cuts to social safety net programs like Medicaid and SNAP. Simultaneously, it allocates funds for border wall construction and mass deportations. Musk’s broad criticism of the bill’s financial implications and its perceived lack of efficiency highlights the deep divisions that are emerging even within the Republican-leaning business community.
