Trump: “Right Technical Expertise” Will Solve Egypt-Ethiopia Rift

Date:

Donald Trump is betting on “the right technical expertise” to solve the rift between Egypt and Ethiopia. The former President has offered to mediate the dispute over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, suggesting that a scientific approach can overcome political differences.

Trump’s letter to Cairo outlines a vision for cooperation. He proposes a deal where Ethiopia generates electricity and Egypt receives guaranteed water releases. He argues that with U.S. monitoring and technical support, a “lasting agreement” is possible for all Nile Basin nations.

The dispute is one of the most complex in Africa. The dam gives Ethiopia control over the Blue Nile, the main source of water for Egypt and Sudan. The lack of a legal agreement on how the dam operates has kept the region on high alert.

Trump’s previous involvement in the dispute was marked by strong pressure tactics. Although no deal was reached, he continues to claim success. His recent comments about the dam being a “big problem” show he remains engaged with the issue.

This new offer emphasizes the role of data and monitoring. Trump believes that by focusing on the technical details of water flow and power generation, he can find a compromise that satisfies both nations. It is a pragmatic attempt to solve a deeply emotional conflict.
