South Korea Achieves Second-Largest Current Account Surplus Worldwide in Q2

Date:

South Korea has achieved the world’s second-largest current account surplus among major economies in the second quarter of the year, according to South Korean President Lee Jae Myung. The surplus reached US$116.63 billion from April to June, trailing only China, which recorded a surplus of US$193.72 billion, as per data from the International Monetary Fund available through the Bank of Korea.

President Lee emphasized that this economic milestone signifies South Korea’s growing influence in the global economic arena. He pointed out that the country’s surplus during this period surpassed the combined figures of Germany and Japan, highlighting its economic strength.

The president attributed this achievement to the global success of South Korean companies, particularly in the semiconductor industry, which plays a vital role in advancing artificial intelligence technologies. These sectors have contributed significantly to the country’s economic performance and international standing.

Looking forward, Lee stressed the importance of building on these accomplishments by enhancing industrial competitiveness and boosting the potential economic growth rate. He called for strategic efforts to ensure sustained economic advancement and a stronger position in the global marketplace.
