Putin Suggests BRICS Nations Implement New Insurance and Grain Market System

Date:

Russian President Vladimir Putin has put forward a proposal aimed at enhancing economic collaboration among BRICS nations, suggesting the establishment of a shared insurance mechanism and a joint grain market. During the BRICS outreach session, Putin emphasized the importance of developing independent financial and trade systems to mitigate the impact of external pressures on member countries. He advocated for stronger independent channels for the movement of capital, labor, and technology.

Highlighting Russia’s initiative, Putin noted that the proposed insurance mechanism and grain market could serve the needs of other BRICS members. This comes amid ongoing Western sanctions that affect Russian energy exports, including restrictions imposed by the European Union, G7, and the UK on insurance services for vessels transporting Russian oil unless certain price-cap conditions are met.

Putin also commended the New Development Bank, an institution created by BRICS countries, underscoring its role in bolstering financial cooperation among emerging economies. He called for a comprehensive approach to tackle global challenges, urging BRICS nations to address both the immediate impacts and root causes of international crises.

The Russian leader encouraged countries from the Global South to collaborate on reforming global governance structures and to address both traditional and new security challenges. Putin’s remarks reflect the growing interest and participation in BRICS, highlighting the group’s efforts to promote an independent stance on global economic and political matters.
