South Korea Rises to 17th in FIFA Women’s World Rankings After Asian Games Success

Date:

South Korea’s national women’s soccer team has climbed to 17th place in the latest FIFA world rankings, marking its highest position in over three years. This advancement follows the team’s commendable performance at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, where they secured a bronze medal.

The team’s rise in the rankings sees them advance two spots from their previous position, returning to 17th for the first time since June 2023. Within the Asian region, South Korea holds the fourth spot, trailing Japan, North Korea, and Australia, who are ranked fifth, 12th, and 15th respectively. Meanwhile, China has slipped to 18th place.

The South Korean team clinched the bronze medal after a 2-0 loss to Japan in the semifinals, followed by a 1-0 victory over China in the third-place match. This achievement marks the team’s first Asian Games bronze in eight years and their first victory against China in 11 years.

Globally, Spain continues to lead the FIFA women’s rankings, with the United States, Germany, England, and Japan rounding out the top five positions. FIFA plans to release its final women’s world rankings for the year on December 7.
