China and Russia have reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening their bilateral relationship and enhancing long-term strategic cooperation as they commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation. Originally signed on July 16, 2001, and subsequently renewed, this treaty serves as the legal framework underpinning the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.
Chinese authorities emphasized their intention to bolster mutually advantageous cooperation across various sectors, reinforcing global stability and confidence in development. This commitment to deepen ties comes as both countries anticipate celebrating 30 years of their strategic partnership in 2026.
Bilateral trade remains a cornerstone of the China-Russia relationship, with China maintaining its status as Russia’s largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years. Trade volumes between the two countries reached approximately $228 billion in 2025, and commerce in the first half of 2026 saw a significant increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
Officials and analysts highlight that the treaty has been instrumental in building political trust, expanding economic cooperation, and enhancing the resilience of China-Russia relations. The partnership, they note, is grounded in principles of non-alignment, non-confrontation, and mutual benefit, contributing to a more balanced international order.
