South Korea Aids Mongolia in Preserving Cultural Heritage Through Education

Date:

In a bid to bolster Mongolia’s cultural heritage conservation sector, South Korea is engaging in a higher education cooperation program designed to nurture future specialists in this field. Central to this initiative is the development of new facilities and resources at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, where officials from both nations recently assessed advancements. This cooperation has led to the establishment of conservation and digital documentation capabilities, vital for preserving Mongolia’s rich cultural legacy.

The collaboration, spearheaded by Kongju National University since 2020, has been instrumental in setting up Mongolia’s inaugural Department of Tangible Cultural Heritage Conservation Technology. This department is focused on a comprehensive program that involves curriculum development, enhancing laboratory facilities, training faculty, and producing educational materials in the Mongolian language. These efforts aim to provide a robust framework for educating the next generation of conservation specialists.

South Korea’s commitment extends beyond immediate educational support, as it also emphasizes the importance of self-sufficiency in Mongolia’s educational landscape. By training Mongolian faculty members, South Korea is facilitating a transition to locally led education, which is expected to sustain the program independently. This strategic move is intended to ensure the longevity and autonomy of the educational initiatives undertaken.

The partnership not only aims to strengthen Mongolia’s cultural conservation capabilities but also aspires to deepen long-term educational cooperation between South Korea and Mongolia. By investing in human resources and infrastructure, both countries are working towards a future where Mongolia can preserve its cultural heritage with locally trained experts leading the way.
