Trump Claims Deal on Hamas Disarmament; Awaiting Israeli Confirmation

Date:

In a significant development concerning the ongoing conflict in Gaza, US President Donald Trump has announced what he termed a “historic” agreement aimed at the complete disarmament of Hamas. This initiative, unveiled via social media, is designed as a crucial step toward resolving the tensions in the region. However, it’s important to note that neither the Israeli government nor Hamas has formally confirmed such an agreement.

President Trump’s proposal outlines a process where Hamas would gradually dismantle its military assets, including the destruction of its tunnel network and the surrender of heavy weapons. This process would occur under international supervision. In exchange, Israeli military forces would conduct a phased withdrawal from Gaza. Responsibility for maintaining order would then transition to an international stabilization force and a newly established Palestinian security administration.

Part of the proposed roadmap includes an immediate cessation of military operations prior to the commencement of the disarmament process. Subsequently, heavy weapons, tunnels, and military infrastructure would be dismantled under the guidance of an international verification committee. Reports suggest that Hamas has agreed to this framework in principle, with disarmament preparations anticipated to start within two weeks, contingent upon international endorsement and consensus among all involved parties.

Despite these diplomatic movements, the Israeli government has yet to officially support the proposal. Israeli officials maintain that the complete disarmament and demilitarization of Gaza are prerequisites for any broader agreement. They have expressed concerns that the current proposal does not fully meet Israel’s security needs.

Meanwhile, military operations continue in Gaza, illustrating the complexities and uncertainties in implementing any future agreement. The situation remains fluid as efforts to bring about a lasting resolution to the conflict proceed.
