Korean Companies, Led by Samsung, Dominate Large OLED Market.

Date:

Samsung Display is on track to surpass LG Display in revenue within the global mid-to-large OLED panel market for the first time during the third quarter. This shift positions Samsung Display to dominate a significant share of the market, particularly in the production of OLED panels for laptops and monitors, where it, alongside LG Display, is expected to command approximately 95% of the market share. Meanwhile, Chinese manufacturers continue to lag significantly behind these South Korean giants.

In a bid to capitalize on this momentum, Samsung has begun distributing its state-of-the-art OLED laptop panels, which offer enhanced brightness and durability. Leading computer brands such as Lenovo, Asus, Dell, and MSI are set to integrate Samsung’s advanced technology into their products. To support this expansion and drive down costs, Samsung is also ramping up its production capabilities through the establishment of a new 8.6-generation manufacturing line.

Despite substantial investments from Chinese display producers to bridge the gap with their South Korean counterparts, they are still grappling with challenges related to production yield. While there have been notable advancements in China’s OLED technology, industry analysts assert that South Korean manufacturers maintain a competitive edge. This is attributed to their superior quality, established customer trust, and adeptness in producing large panels.

Samsung Display’s strategic moves in production expansion and technological enhancement come at a crucial time as demand for high-quality OLED panels grows. The company’s efforts not only bolster its market position but also underscore the ongoing competition within the display industry, particularly between South Korean and Chinese manufacturers. As the landscape evolves, the ability to deliver reliable and cutting-edge OLED solutions will be a critical factor in maintaining market leadership.
