TDK and LG Innotek Collaborate on Cutting-Edge Robot Sensors Development

Date:

In a strategic move to enhance robotics capabilities, LG Innotek has joined forces with TDK of Japan to create advanced vision and tactile sensing modules tailored for robotics and physical AI. This collaboration merges LG Innotek’s prowess in optical and precision engineering with TDK’s cutting-edge sensor technologies, aiming to push the boundaries of how robots perceive and interact with their environment.

The collaboration’s initial milestone is set for 2027, with the release of a pioneering vision sensing module that incorporates an inertial sensor. This innovative system will integrate visual, motion, direction, and auditory data, providing robots with a comprehensive understanding of their surroundings. Additionally, it aims to minimize image distortion caused by movement, enhancing the overall functionality of robotic systems.

Alongside vision improvements, the partnership is making strides in developing a tactile sensing module, which is expected to emulate the sensitivity of human skin. This module will enable robots to detect touch and pressure across their hands, arms, and bodies, significantly improving their ability to interact with objects and environments. The tactile sensing module is also anticipated to be completed by 2027, marking another significant advancement in robotics technology.

LG Innotek believes that this partnership will bolster its standing in the burgeoning robotics market by broadening its array of AI sensing technologies. These technologies include cameras, lidar, radar, and now, tactile sensors. By expanding its technological portfolio, LG Innotek aims to lead in the development of sophisticated robotic systems capable of more intuitive and human-like interactions.
