Italy Blasts Russia Following Drone Attack Wounding Romanians

Date:

Italy has issued a strong denunciation of Russia following a drone attack that reportedly struck a residential building in the Romanian city of Galați, near the Ukraine border. The incident, which injured two civilians, has heightened regional security concerns and drawn sharp criticism from Italian leaders. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni labeled the strike as an extremely serious act, highlighting that it took place in Romania, a nation that is both a European Union and NATO member.

Meloni emphasized the broader implications of the attack, pointing out that it underscores the ongoing danger the conflict poses to civilians and the potential risks it carries for European security at large. Expressing solidarity with Romania, she extended support to both the Romanian government and the individuals affected by the attack. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani echoed this sentiment, urging Russia to pursue genuine efforts towards achieving a just and lasting peace while reiterating Italy’s backing of Romania.

In a related response, Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto condemned the drone strike as a dangerous and irresponsible escalation of the situation. He underscored the importance of collective security among NATO and EU members, stressing that the safety of one ally is a shared responsibility for all. The incident has sparked increased anxiety among European leaders over the possibility of the conflict extending beyond Ukraine’s borders and impacting neighboring countries.

Romanian authorities have confirmed that two individuals sustained injuries when the drone impacted a residential area in Galați. This development has intensified discussions among NATO members about their collective defense commitments and the necessity of maintaining regional stability amid persisting tensions. The alliance has continually affirmed its dedication to collective security, a principle that remains crucial as the conflict continues to unfold.
