Russian President Vladimir Putin has asserted that Russia is not gearing up for any conflict with Europe, countering concerns from some European NATO member states about potential military threats from Moscow. Putin emphasized that Russia has no incentive to escalate tensions with European nations and dismissed allegations suggesting preparations for hostilities.
In his statements, Putin also mentioned the possibility of Russia resuming peace talks with Ukraine. This consideration comes in the wake of recent Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory. However, he noted that Moscow would thoroughly evaluate its subsequent actions before making a decision on re-engaging in negotiations.
Despite these declarations, Russian military actions in Ukraine persist, with airstrikes continuing to inflict casualties and inflict damage on both civilian and industrial infrastructure. A recent attack in Kyiv resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, including a 14-year-old boy, and left dozens wounded.
The ongoing conflict has also impacted Ukraine’s economy, as evidenced by ArcelorMittal’s announcement to halt production at the country’s largest steel plant. This decision follows multiple Russian strikes that caused damage to the facility and resulted in worker fatalities, adding to the economic challenges Ukraine faces amid the prolonged conflict.
