Peter Cullen, the iconic Canadian voice actor renowned for bringing to life beloved characters such as Optimus Prime from Transformers and Eeyore from the Winnie the Pooh series, has passed away at the age of 85. His family announced that Cullen died peacefully at his Los Angeles home on Wednesday, with his loved ones by his side.
Born in Montreal, Cullen’s career began in Canadian television and radio before he established himself as one of the most distinguished voice talents in the entertainment world. He first voiced the legendary Autobot leader, Optimus Prime, in the 1984 Transformers animated television series. Cullen’s portrayal of the character spanned several decades, as he reprised the role in seven Hollywood films from 2007 to 2023 and numerous spin-offs.
In addition to his work on Transformers, Cullen became synonymous with Eeyore, the gloomy yet endearing donkey from Winnie the Pooh. His voice brought Eeyore to life in The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and other related television shows, films, and video games. His diverse range also included voicing KARR, the antagonist to KITT, in Knight Rider, creating the unique clicking sounds of the creature in the 1987 film Predator, and providing the voice for King Kong in the 1976 remake.
