South Korea, US, Japan Strengthen Security Ties to Deter North Korea.

The foreign ministers of South Korea, the United States, and Japan have reiterated their dedication to sustaining a robust deterrence against North Korea while enhancing trilateral partnerships in regional security, economic resilience, and new technological advancements. This commitment was emphasized during their meeting held alongside ASEAN-related ministerial gatherings in Manila.

South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi have agreed to maintain close coordination on policies concerning North Korea. Their efforts aim to achieve the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula through dialogue and diplomacy, supported by a credible deterrence strategy. Furthermore, the ministers addressed regional and global security issues, focusing on developments in Northeast Asia and the Middle East, and reinforced their support for freedom of navigation and overflight, adherence to international law, and enhanced maritime security throughout the Indo-Pacific region.

In terms of economic security, the three nations have pledged to deepen their cooperation in areas such as nuclear energy, critical minerals, supply chain resilience, and advanced technologies. They also aim to address economic coercion collectively. Additionally, they committed to strengthening collaboration on disaster relief, humanitarian assistance, and efforts to combat transnational crime.

This meeting underscored the shared resolve of South Korea, the United States, and Japan to expand practical cooperation and engage in regular consultations to tackle mutual security and economic challenges effectively. By doing so, they aim to bolster their collective ability to address both immediate and long-term issues affecting the region and beyond.
