Sugarcane Bagasse Revolutionizes Foodservice Packaging with New Applications and Specs

Date:

Sugarcane bagasse, a byproduct from sugarcane juice extraction, is being utilized as a sustainable material for molded-fiber food packaging. This eco-friendly packaging can be crafted into plates, bowls, trays, clamshells, and other containers suited for foodservice, catering, retail, and delivery purposes. Shenzhen Grizzlies Industries specializes in producing both standard and customized packaging solutions, including those with coatings and laminations tailored to specific foodservice needs.

The production process of bagasse packaging involves cleaning, pulping, and molding the fibrous residue under heat and pressure to form three-dimensional containers. This process includes fiber preparation, pulping, molded forming, hot pressing, drying, trimming, quality checks, and packaging. The manufacturing technique allows for various container designs, including different depths, wall structures, compartments, and rims, meeting diverse foodservice requirements. Custom molds for OEM and private labels can also be developed.

Bagasse packaging is valued for its structural integrity, making it ideal for handling, stacking, transportation, and food delivery. Its design can be customized to maintain shape under normal commercial loads. While commonly used for foods like rice, noodles, fried foods, pasta, and curries, bagasse can also incorporate barrier technologies to enhance resistance for high oil or moisture content foods. The natural appearance of the molded-fiber surface allows for custom structural designs and embossed logos, adding to its appeal.

Available in standard, coated, and laminated forms, bagasse packaging can be selected based on specific food products and operating conditions. Standard molded bagasse is suitable for dry or semi-dry foods, while barrier-coated bagasse is designed for greater grease or moisture resistance. Laminated bagasse offers higher resistance for applications involving moisture, grease, sealing, oxygen barriers, or varied temperature capabilities, using materials such as PLA, PET, CPET, or EVOH. These choices enable foodservice operators to align packaging with menu items, barrier needs, and sealing methods.

Shenzhen Grizzlies Industries operates with extensive manufacturing capabilities, having more than 280 automated machines across 11 production bases, with a monthly capacity reaching up to 200 × 40HQ containers. With over 15 years of OEM and ODM experience, the company offers standard and customized packaging, including mold development, structural and logo customization, private-label production, and more. Their capabilities also extend to PFAS-free barrier integration, liquid coating, multilayer lamination, and comprehensive quality assurance.
